I was inspired by the Acknowledgments Forum for this class as well as all of the really good ideas put out there by my classmates and I thought it would be fun to do a light-hearted and sort of sarcastic version of an acknowledgment, giving thanks to those around me that continue to support and encourage me, while also keeping me awake at night.
And I suppose it’s actually more of a 🍠, but with emojis. So that’s fun.
First, I would like to thank the current allergy season 🙋, which seems to be keeping up with 2021’s already good name and causing my 👨to snore louder than the cicadas that ram into my bedroom window until the wee hours. No, I don’t like 😴, myself. I don't even need it. It's overrated, for sure 😶
I would also like to thank this week’s 🔥wave for causing said 👨to turn the temperature of the thermostat down to just above freezing (after taking the time to look around the corner and make sure that I'm not coming, of course). I like wearing my slipper socks all year ‘round so that my toes don’t fall off. I do. I really, really do 🙌
Let me also recognize my 👭, while I’m at it, both of whom would leave me devastated if they all of sudden stopped playing KIDZ BOP on loop. All. Day. Long. Please don’t. Ever.
I can’t say enough about my chocolate lab. He may or may not be my favorite child 😍
And what would I do without my five-month-old australian shepherd/werewolf 👀🙅🐕👿😳? Her daily and intentional growls, nips, tugs and bites are a wonderful way to wake up every morning. What would I do without you, Harper Grace? Bless your little ❤
I would like to thank my 👩for always being there for me and for not clearly explaining her reasoning for slowing her emoji roll... as if she has something better to do 👎
As well as my favorite barista👏👏👏, an 😇on earth, for knowing and understanding, possibly more than any other human alive, the three words that reveal the way to my 💜: triple shot americano ☕
Lastly, thank you to the cicadas of 2021, for keeping up appearances and for keeping me alert and ready. For what? I’m not sure. But this I know: when you hear the chants of the Winkie Guards approaching and when it seems that, at any moment, they'll come through the window with that bitch from the west, yeah. You'll be ready ✊
Cheers!
Key:
🍠= roast
👨= husband
😴= sleep
🔥= heat
👭= daughters
❤ = black, dark, evil heart. No judgement.
👩= sister
😇= angel
Ha! This is great. Funny and creative. I am also grateful for the key.
ReplyDeleteYour story made me think about this: This morning, by the way, my 19-year-old deaf cat was walking through the house, screaming for no reason (he is fine; he just does not know how loud he is) and I was there in bed, trying to sleep just a *bit* longer and realizing there was nothing I could do to get him to stop. Call him? Yell for him to be quiet? He can't hear me. He finally jumped up on the bed, screamed at me for a couple of minutes while I alternated between pretending to be dead asleep and trying to coax him into sitting down. At last, he settled down, happily curled up, and fell asleep. Then the alarm went off (which didn't bug him because he can't hear). True story. And I guess I'll add: thank you, Bing, for giving me material for this comment. (I really do love him a ton and me makes me laugh!)
This cracked me up, Julie! I loved the addition of the key at the end. The "emoji bomb" style I think really complimented the sarcasm of the message, and it made the whole thing REALLY funny to read.
ReplyDeleteThis is sew creative, Julie! I’m actually kind of upset that I don’t understand the cicada annoyance. I remember the last time they came and I was really excited but I haven’t seen one at my house. I know some people are almost infested with them, so maybe I’m lucky but I was also looking forward to seeing just some. Also wouldn’t it be so funny if this was a regular thing to do in the back of the books, would make things so interesting! Just the same as you don’t realize how many people help you you also don’t realize how much hinders you haha
ReplyDeleteSo creative*
ReplyDeleteThis was such a good idea! It really hyped up the irony that you were jokingly saying thank you to the things that were not all that helpful to you in the end in a space that is typically reserved for praise. I enjoyed the key at the end as well, mostly to make sure I was picking up what you were putting down. It really reminded me of the way McCulloch proved the point in the last chapter that emojis need to be in combination with words to make any sense. Such a creative idea!
